All about Kitchens

Kitchens are the heart of house it is the most expensive part of entire house. Home owners have very high expectations from their kitchen. It has to be functional, organized and welcoming. It should also keep up day to day demands and at the end of the day look aesthetically pleasing.
Now a day’s the kitchen is not only for cooking; it’s actually a multipurpose room where most of the decisions of our lives are made.
I have tried to focus on some of the issues in my blog post.

Planning the layout

kitchen layout choices

Planning is the key in any kind of renovation. I wanted to change the layout of my kitchen for a more functional kitchen. However, when we started to plan the new lay out it looked like I had the best possible lay out with the space that I was given. Only thing that was at the top of my list was to:

  • Move the stove from the island to the peripheral wall.
  • Easier access to pots and pans
  • Lots of storage with a bigger pantry.

So my designer told me the best way to approach this is to have a kitchen work triangle. My kitchen was 20 years old but it has the work triangle that’s why we kept the layout same with only a few changes.

What is a kitchen work triangle?

Basically the kitchen work triangle connects the three main work areas in the kitchen. The sink, the range, and the refrigerator. So the formula is the distance between these areas should be no less than 4 feet and no larger than 9 feet. The sum of all three sides of the triangle should be between 13 feet and 26 feet. If the distance is too small, it can make a kitchen feel overcrowded and blocked. If it’s too large, it will make cooking difficult. The length of the counter can be as long as possible; it all depends on the space. However, the standard width is usually 36 to 42 inches. The elbow room on either side of the range is very important typically it is 10 inches, but if it is more than that it’s much better. Another tip to keep in mind is to have some kind of counter space around the refrigerator there’s room to set down items from the refrigerator.

Aside from the planning of your kitchen there are other aspects you need to tackle like:

  • cabinets
  • appliances
  • counter tops
  • sinks
  • faucets
  • flooring
  • hardware
  • backsplash
  • lighting
